2013 was, undoubtedly, the 'Year of Change.' Fresh off our engagement, we jumped into wedding planning, got married, honeymooned, traveled, moved into a house, decided to expand our puppy family, and at the end of the year, Byron graduated! And in between all that, so many other new experiences sprinkled our year with joy and pain and growth and change and smiles and laughter and love. We were so happy to share much of our first year of marriage with you. After a small hiatus, we are returning to share all of the decorations, events, home projects, travels, and adventures that will fill 2014!
We know we've left you wondering about our holiday season and, of course, Byron's graduation, so we'll be sure to make a few flashback posts to catch you up on all the fun. But, now, let's launch into this year!
Byron started his new job working as a Research Technician on a project being run by a few Baylor professors at the nearby Waco Wetlands. He is studying the effects of an herbicide on the streams. Other than that, it's top secret...so, obviously, B's been hired by the CIA!
Byron has really been enjoying his work! The Sunday before his second week of work, he said "I have nothing to prepare...no homework...no tests this week...I love work!"
Thus far, the project is in the 'construction' phase, which has resulted in B coming home stinky & tired & hungry...he's a real working man!
I have also returned to work! I never really talk about what I actually do to pay for my creative side venture--magpie writes--so here's what I've been up to. Half the day, I help the uninsured apply for a discount card offered by our Community Health Center in Waco. I also inform and assist the patients at my clinical site about the Affordable Care Act. The other half of the day, I work on art & health initiatives. I create informative and attractive posters about service we offer, and am currently working on an amazing cookbook we will be offering our patients and launching on Valentine's Day!
I am also trying out new hairstyles and sending selfies to Byron...so, there's that.
As far as magpie writes, I am excited about this year! I have a show in March 1st where I will be selling new Spring goodies. That collection will be on my etsy shop soon!
Enough about the humans...y'all want puppy updates! Bixby and Eleanor have become the best of friends. Bixby is fully potty trained--hurrah! He is also playful, snuggly, and adorable. Eleanor is a jealous little angel. The puppies learned our new morning schedule much quicker than we did...they greet us each morning, mere minutes before our inevitable alarm sounds; Bixby with big licks, Ele with deep groans. The spot of whoever gets up first is immediately taken over by one of the puppies and they continue to cuddle on the warm bed until one of us is ready to take them out. We are loving these two...I don't want to say that Bixby was the best decision of 2013, because we got married and blah blah blah, but he was.
Upon returning from our holiday break, I wanted to redo most of our house. Ladies in my family feel a constant urge to rearrange. God bless the men and roommates and friends who deal with us. Fortunately, Byron is mostly happy to oblige. He even suggested we buy this rug to upgrade to a more grown up, sophisticated style...a man after my own heart, I swoon. We have also redone our office and have upgraded the dining room. Right now, we are working on a fun project to display our mugs. We will share all of these updates soon!
Oh, 2014, you have been so fun already. here's a look at a week in our lives...on Tuesday evenings, Byron and I have been participating in a local pub's trivia night. For the past two weeks, our team name has been "Puppy Patrol." For the past two weeks, we have been in second to last place. We are hoping for a big win this week...the tournament is about to start! On Wednesday evenings, we host a small group at our house. Beginning February 27, Thursday night is Grey's night, but until then, it is chill night. On Fridays and Saturdays we try to catch up with people or go out on special dates. We have seen more movies together in the past 3 weeks than in our entire time previous to that! We've also been playing lots of Scrabble! On Sundays, I am co-leading a Sunday school class called 'Christians in the Headlines' and Byron has been going to a class on the Book of John. Then we relax, regroup, and recharge for Monday!
Thanks for stopping by to catch up with us! It sure is good to be back!
What kind of posts do you want to see from us this year?
